Spotting Fake News

You may remember an IVS blog post from January that described a National Public Radio story which told of a Stanford University Study that found that many middle school, high school, and college students cannot tell the difference between real and fake news. Because of that study, many schools have started taking action to teach students the difference between real and fake news. Click HERE to read a Boston Globe story by Johanna Seltz that takes a look at how some schools are now teaching their students how to spot fake news.

Where do you get your news?

A recent study by Stanford University found that many middle school, high school, and college students cannot tell the difference between real news and fake news. This may be because a lot of those students are getting their news from social media sites, rather than from credible news sources. You can click HERE to listen to or read National Public Radio’s Cory Turner’s story of a non-profit organization that has established a digital curriculum for high school students that helps them assess and determine whether the news they are receiving is real or fake.
